Assuming you don't mind living far enough from everyone else that there are no building codes, etc...

As for tidy, people who saw the inside of my trailer invariably remarked on how neat it was. Yet now that I'm in a regular house I can't find room for all the stuff I managed to store inside my trailer + shed. It's a paradox! :-) I still think about going back to some sort of RV... or a boat... yeah, a boat. There's something about knowing that you could pick up and go... at least until you remember how hard it is to find affordable parking near civilization.

Still fun to look, though, as with any custom luxury goods or nice handicrafts. And studying efficient design in small spaces is inherently fascinating.paintedjaguarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12543155841059132978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5598883894140893389.post-58595989103444587802015-09-04T01:15:39.576+01:002015-09-04T01:15:39.576+01:00Oh, I know all that. To me, they are no different from the tiny houses that are just tiny houses on a little plot of land. Which means, yes, you can't store things you might need later. But as I say, it's a fantasy, and one that only lasts for the length of the video. I have a whole house already, I don't need a tiny home. And I do need my books and things, y'know? But the really fantastic thing about those tiny homes, I think, is not that they are "simple", but rather that the are so...tidy. Now *that* is a fantasy!Avedonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04702100335744054401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5598883894140893389.post-86226808105902267502015-09-03T22:34:05.463+01:002015-09-03T22:34:05.463+01:00Who doesn't love looking at those "tiny h...Who doesn't love looking at those "tiny homes"? I'd love to go design & build one right now. However (and speaking as someone who lived in a 25-foot travel trailer for 15 years), the problem with the concept isn't so much the lack of space. It's that you have to have somewhere to PARK the damn thing. And if you're parked for long, you'll need access to some utility hookups. In fact,"tiny homes" like this are nothing new -- they've been mass produced for years and are otherwise known as "park model" mobile homes.

This is another branch of the fashionable "voluntary simplicity" thing which, though attractive, is not nearly as morally uplifted as it likes to think. Living that way is actually quite a luxury. It requires both strong social support and good enough finances to purchase goods and services as needed rather than store your old stuff and the materials and tools needed for repairs. If you are poor, you hoard old clothes, newspapers, foil, and plastic bags to use later. Those proverbial cars up on cinder blocks? Are often a source of spare parts or raw materials.paintedjaguarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12543155841059132978noreply@blogger.com
