And all three of those times — under Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama". Union leadership did not do well by its membership during the primaries. They don't seem to have negotiated before endorsing Carter and Clinton, and they sought "a seat at the table" by endorsing Obama over John Edwards, who was heavily pro-union, pro-working class. The lesson the Democratic Establishment learned was that they could safely work for the owners rather than the workers, and still get union money and votes.
